You’ve probably been moved to pray when hearing the news of a missing child or an abduction and things of that nature. In many cases the authorities send out amber alerts so folks can be watchful and thankfully children have been recovered and returned home because of these alerts. Well, in case you’re not aware right now, sanity is being kidnapped in the world around us, God is being annulled and faith in Him is becoming a crime.
Huge numbers of people in our nation are accepting and legalizing outrageous practices under the banner of human rights while at the same time, ignoring the possibility (in my opinion the facts) that their policies and laws are indeed destroying the lives of others. Below are some recent stories that should trouble us all.
New York just passed a law legalizing abortion up to the moment of birth. At the news Planned Parenthood tweeted “This. Is. Huge” and the New York lit up landmarks in pink in celebration. People were cheering about. The law removes legal protections for babies born alive after botched abortions. Today Virginia Democrat Kathy Tran is sponsoring a bill to repeal restriction on third-trimester abortions as well.
The Democrats have a draft wanting “To strike ‘so help you God’ from oath” that is taken in front of key house committee and the California’s Department of Education is proposing that kindergartners and other elementary age students be taught to reject gender stereotypes and to accept that transgender-ism is normal. In other words they are being told their gender identity may be different than the sex assigned to them at birth.
Like I said earlier, there needs to be an amber alert because our sanity is being kidnapped. I know these are not things we like to think about. Personally, they make me feel sad. (That’s exactly what they should do). Ignoring my inner feelings about these things would mean I would have to harden my heart. Logic says you can’t think about these things because they will steal your joy. That is not true if we deal with it God’s way.
James 4:7-10 says “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
Mature Christianity stems from a life submitted to God. The devil knows that kind of lifestyle means he will fail and the less power he will have in a person’s life. So, walking close to God should be our priority. When we are living close to God, we will recognize when we start to drift away. We drift away when we start to entertain and dwell on thoughts and ideas that are not godly and act on them. Continuing to walk in these ungodly ways while still maintaining some godly patterns means we have become double minded. James is telling us any joy we have from this kind of lifestyle is wrong. We should mourn about it because we realize we have been led astray. If and when we find ourselves in that position we are to let our laughter be turned to mourning, our joy to gloom. We are to return to the Lord in humility which positions us to be able to receive true joy from above.
You don’t have to be under a cloud of sadness when you see the world so sick and lost. Yes, it saddens us, but we should take it all to the Lord in prayer not ignore it. We should ask Him to intervene in the situation, ask Him if there is anything else we can do besides pray. We should realize that He is with us even in a more useful way because we have drawn near to Him. Remember your prayers make a difference, not only for you and your loved ones but for our nation. Amber alert – “Lord help us keep our sanity”.
Further thoughts on this idea of praying for our nation can be found in Daniel 9:1-19.
