The wake of ignorance!
By Doug Cox
There is plenty to be ignorant about in today’s world like social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Tinder, Periscope and Tiktok. You can be ignorant about politics and news of the day, or about being ‘woke.’ Don’t mistake being aware for being ‘woke.’ The woke culture wants you to agree with their ideas about gender, sexuality, politics, religion and so on. You must agree that boys can be girls and vice versa or they can be both or nothing at all. That’s enough for me to know I don’t want to know anymore. I know that is too far from Biblical standards.
As far as being woke goes the Apostle Paul addresses it in Ephesians 5:14-16. He says “…awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light. See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” We are to be ‘woke’ to God. We are to be people who are awake, wise and making the most of our time. We are to avoid being fools and being captured by evil. To do that we must not be ignorant of God’s Word.
Hosea 4:6 tells us the danger of being ignorant or lacking knowledge. He says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
I remember when I lacked knowledge about salvation. I thought I could earn my salvation. I thought I was a good enough man to get into heaven. I was making efforts to do the right thing so I thought I could tip the scales and get into God’s heaven. The truth is I was headed for hell. Thankfully I received the revelation of how we are saved by grace through faith, Ephesians 2:8-9. From there I learned through God’s Word about forgiveness, the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit’s role in my life, healing and more. What a joy to learn how God loves me and wants me to know Him. I’m glad we don’t have to be ignorant and lost in the wake of ignorance.
