Spiritual blindness can be cured!
The day is coming when billions of people will be called forth out of their grave to stand before the Almighty, the Risen Lord Jesus. In that moment they will behold His magnificence beauty and Authority and realize their earthly life was spent in spiritual blindness.
Sadly, this future revelation of Christ will do them no good, even though every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. The time to connect was during their time on earth, before death visited them and sealed their fate, when Jesus was acting as Mediator between God and men and not when He is standing as the Judge of the living and the dead.
Spiritual blindness is common to all who do not believe in Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. Jesus explains the problem in John 3:19. “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” It’s uncomfortable for us all. A true revelation of Jesus brings with it a true revelation of our own sinfulness and depravity. Because of that many run from Jesus not wanting to be exposed.
Man’s idea of being the master of his own destiny, is only partially true. A human being can, through self-discipline, hard work, purposeful living, and faith in a dream, become very successful according to human standards, then think they have accomplished it all. That would be fine if life ended after breathing out one’s last breath. But based upon Jesus’s last breath after an agonizing slow death on the cross we see it’s not true at all.
One of Jesus’s seven short statements on the cross was “It is finished.” (John 19:30) The question is what is finished? The answer is everything needed to redeem mankind from his fallen state. Jesus sacrificial death on the cross opened the door for all of humanity to receive forgiveness and eternal life because He took their judgement for sin upon Himself.
Romans 5:17 says “For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” Maybe Adam didn’t understand the full scope of what he was doing when he selfishly disobeyed God and opened Death’s door. Nonetheless, he left us all with the inheritance of sin and death. On the other hand, Jesus knew exactly what He was doing committing to unselfishly come to earth, take on flesh, then die a horrible death on the cross. He became the Door to life for anyone who would put faith in Him. He became the means to connect us spiritually with God. Adam turned us over to Satan, Jesus came to take us back. It is finished because of the cross.
The Apostle Paul explains it beautifully saying “having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:14) He also explains why some won’t receive it. “…Our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
Friends there is a cure to spiritual blindness. Believe that Jesus came to save you from your sin.
