Avoiding the Judgment of Abandonment!
Avoiding the judgment of abandonment!
By Doug Cox
The apostle Peter gives Christians some sound advice saying “…be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God that He may exult you in due time.” (1 Peter 5:5-6)
Have you ever wondered how very educated people can lack so much common sense? Something is amiss when a sitting Justice on the Supreme Court can’t define what a woman is. Something is amiss when people cheer about being able to legally abort a full term baby. Something is amiss when parents allow their children to be taught about sexuality by a man wearing fish net stockings and fake boobs. This is a short list of the depravity that is going on in our world today. The question is, how can it happen?
It’s as easy as rejecting the truth of God’s Word. It’s as simple as saying you don’t want God in your life. When people consistently make that kind of decision in their life, there comes a time when there will be a repercussion. It’s called the judgment of abandonment.
In Romans chapter one you can find 3 times where God turns people over to their own foolishness. In verse 22 it says, “professing themselves to be wise they became fools.” A fool is a person who thinks they are smarter than God. Their problem is God will let them play out their hand.
The best lesson any human can learn is that their own wisdom pales in comparison to God’s infinite wisdom. Thankfully we can access His wisdom by humbly submitting to His Word. Verse 28 says “and even as they (the fools) did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting.”
The next couple of verses list the things that are “not fitting” behaviors for a healthy society. There’s wickedness, covetousness, envy, murder, deceit and hatred of God. They are without natural affection, unmerciful and prideful. It sounds to me like Peter was right in telling us to clothe ourselves with humility. And, what a powerful truth to remember especially as the world gets ready to spend the next month celebrating pride.
