How to strengthen your witness for Christ
By Pastor Doug Cox
Witnessing for Christ is one of our most important responsibilities we as Christians have. It is terrifying to many and many feel inadequate and don’t know what to do so here are some ideas that may help you strengthen you to have a stronger witness.
First know what the gospel is and remember how simple it is. Paul defines it in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4,6. He says, “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved…. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures”. “..and was seen by over 500 brethren at once.”
Next you know personally how believing in Jesus from the heart has changed your life. Part of your witness is about what He has done for you.
Next you must know you are all called to be a witness for Him. Jesus says in Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere, in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (NLT) The ends of the earth means where you and I live. In 2 Corinthians 5:20 Paul says “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”
Now to help us implement this, what if in light of what these verses say, we wake up in the morning with them in mind? We can ask the Lord to fill us with the Holy Spirit’s power to help us witness for Him. We can ask Him to help us represent Him well and also to give us courage to speak boldly about Him when the opportunity arises.
What if we pray for Him to help our lips and life align with His will. Colossians 4:5-6 says “Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
In closing I want to ask you to join me by making a copy of this article and use it every morning to help you pray and start your day with witnessing on your mind. Let’s see what the Lord can do through us!
