God’s Word Our Light!
by Rebekah Harvey
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.” The word of God, the Bible is meant to teach us and light our way in this dark world. In modern life we most often don’t think about how dangerous it would be to walk along an unfamiliar path without illumination. We enjoy the convenience of streetlights and of course our phone flashlight that is always available in our pocket. However, this is a recent advantage, in years past there were no street lights or cell phone flashlights. The safety of the traveler would rely on carrying a lantern to prevent oneself from falling into an open sewer or tripping into heaps of refuse collected in the streets.
Although the world we live in is spiritually dark we don’t have to lose our way or stumble in that darkness. Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.“ If we will dig into the word of God and allow it to speak into our lives it will help us to discern between good and evil. Psalm 119:133 says, “Guide my steps by Your word, so I will not be overcome by any evil.” This assures us that we can receive the guidance we need through the Bible and it will help us to overcome the evil that we face.
