Living For God in Challenging Times
By Marinda Pedroza
Last week, I was reading the final chapter of Ecclesiastes and reflecting on what the last two verses—Ecclesiastes 12:13-14—say:
“Fear God and obey His commands, for this is everyone’s duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.”
These words really spoke to me.
I’ve had some challenges recently that have made me think deeply about how I need to respond—not just emotionally, but biblically. It’s so easy to let the flesh take over in difficult situations, and when that happens, it can lead to disaster… and words that can’t be taken back.
But in the end, God is the judge. Vengeance belongs to Him—not to me.
It’s easy to go through life without pausing to really think about what we’re doing or why we’re doing it. We can end up just going through the motions. And if we’re not careful, our hearts can grow hard—toward people, toward circumstances, and even toward God’s voice.
These verses reminded me to slow down. To think about others. To be intentional with my actions and my words. Am I living with purpose? Am I glorifying God in what I do—even in the ordinary things?
There are so many tasks that feel mundane—like taking out the trash, folding laundry, or making meals every day—but even in those, I’m reminded that I can glorify God.
Lord, help me to serve and glorify You in all that I do. Keep my heart soft and my attitude right—even when things feel hard or unfair. You see everything—every motive, every secret thought. Nothing is hidden from You.
I want to walk in integrity before You. Help me to keep my thoughts and actions pure, because You know my heart fully.
In the end, I will give an account. And I want to live a life that honors You.
Thank You, Jesus, for Your joy—especially when things feel heavy or uncertain. And when life is full of joy, help me to stay grounded and keep my eyes fixed on You.
