Mind Renewal
by Keith Gifford
When I first got serious about walking with the Lord some 30+ years ago, I thought that I would be some sort of super Christian or spiritual giant when I got to where I am today. I’m laughing at myself even now at the thought of that because what I really needed was a little MIND RENEWAL (Romans 12:2). My carnal thinking. Looking back I see that I am a better person than I was. And that I’m certainly way better off than I was. It was MIND RENEWAL I needed and it was MIND RENEWAL that I received. I was conformed to this world and transformed by the Scriptures (and prayer).
I didn’t get it overnight, but over the last 30+ years and I see now that on this side of heaven I’ll never “arrive”. In fact I may need it more now than ever. It’s like taking medicine (Proverbs 4:22). Yesterday’s aspirin won’t help me today. If have pain again today, I’ll have to take more aspirin today. There are also some medications that work better at a therapeutic level. A maintained level in the body. It’s the same with Scripture. When Jesus was being tempted of the devil in the desert, He was locked and loaded with, “IT IS WRITTEN”. He is our example. If He needed to know Scripture before He needed it, we need to know Scripture before we need it. He also prayed a lot. If there was ever anybody who didn’t need to pray, you would think it would be Jesus right. Wrong! If Jesus needed to pray a lot, we need to pray a lot.
Every Sunday at Crossroads, almost without fail, we are admonished to do this. Much of a Successful Christian walk comes from hearing things over and over because we don’t always get it right off. Faith comes by hearing. Hearing from the Anointed Christ (the Living Word).
It’s the DOERS that get results.
Let’s be DOERS. AMEN?
