Pits and Praise
by Rebekah Harvey
When life is “the pits” we can be assured of something, God is always with us! This is the theme for our vacation Bible school this year and what we will be encouraging the kids to focus on. As adults this is something that we often need to be reminded of as well. The Bible accounts that we will be teaching the kids from are in Genesis 37:1-45:15 where Joseph has many difficult experiences, including being thrown in a pit by his brothers and left. We will also focus on how crowds of people followed Jesus and worshiped Him and then days later their worship turned to betrayal. Read Matthew 26:26-28:20 in a different translation that you are not used to reading so you can read it with fresh eyes.
Matthew 28:20 … “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Life presents all of us with difficulties at times, sometimes it seems like that is all that we deal with. However, we can receive comfort in knowing that we are not alone, because Jesus promised us that He would always be with us.
This past Sunday Pastor Doug taught about having a lifestyle of Biblical worship. He encouraged us that when we feel like we are at our end we should worship Jesus. I believe Sunday’s message and the lessons the kids will be having go together. God never leaves us alone even when we feel that way, He promised He would not leave us. We can and should worship the Lord for Who He is and not just for what He does for us. Praise Him even if it is from the pit.
John 4:23 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.”
