The Power of God’s Word
by Jana Cox
Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
We have recently experienced a snowfall that we are not accustomed to. I have been saying, like many of you, “I am over this.” However, for some reason, the snow keeps falling, and as I read this scripture it does say it comes from heaven. As I have been thinking about this it likens the snow to the word of God. Could there be a message for us in this?
I think it is very easy to get discouraged when circumstances get in the way of our lives. But if we would look at things differently, with a godly perspective it gives us the opportunity to refocus and learn from what is going on around us.
With that said, I have decided to adjust my attitude and be thankful for what I have and the message God has for me. We all need water to live a healthy life so as we look at the snow maybe we can begin to see the message it can reveal to us.
I believe this is a time when people need the word of God like they never have before. God’s word has the ability to transform our lives and it gives sustenance to the parched soul. Our country is dry and barren of life, the life-giving word of God and if we are honest maybe we are too. So, instead of getting frustrated and angry maybe we can look at things differently.
God can be speaking to us through the snow as it is brought forth to water the earth. This also is how the word of God will work in our lives. The word of God has the power to transform our lives, it can change us from being parched, and fruitless to lush and fruitful. It not only effects our lives but has the ability to affect others through us. God’s word accomplishes what He pleases. And that means that He will work through us. But this will only happen as we allow His water, to fill our hearts and wash over our souls.
Will you join me, (especially as we celebrate the death, burial, and Resurrection of Jesus) in adjusting your thoughts and attitude and allowing the Lord’s presence to fall fresh on you? This could be the moment that God does something amazing for us, and others if we allow Him to.
