A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to teach children’s church. As most of you probably know, we have started using a new curriculum for this ministry and the kids seem to be taking to it very well. The lesson that I taught was called, “God’s Word Guides Us” with the subtitle, God Never Lies. I am so thankful that God is not only honest but He is truth. He is the author of truth, He does not change, He is faithful.

One of the foundational verses for this lesson was Titus 1:2, 1 “This letter is from Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I have been sent to proclaim faith to those God has chosen and to teach them to know the truth that shows them how to live godly lives. 2 This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God–who does not lie–promised them before the world began.”

This characteristic of God being truth, not just truthful can be a difficult concept for us to wrap our brains around. Especially since we live in a world where manipulation, deceit, and dishonesty to name just a few increases rapidly and are part of the norm of our lives. One of the concepts in this lesson was that God does not change, He never has a bad day, He is never grumpy, He isn’t moody, this is good news because as human nature goes, we all have bad days sometimes, and your kids and spouse get grumpy!

Because God is truth, we can trust His Word. We are so blessed to have access to the Bible in so many forms. We can read it in our laps, use it on a phone app, or listen to it as we go throughout the day. This is an awesome privilege considering being caught with a Bible in some countries could land you in a labor camp or worse, the Bible is considered propaganda and not allowed and even changed in other countries to promote their own ideas.

Regardless of how people try to limit the Bible and the teaching of God’s Word, they will not be able to restrain the power that the truth of God’s Word brings those that receive it. Just as the verses in Titus tell us, God, Who does not lie has given us eternal life as He promised before the world began, and that is truth that we can trust!
