Nuts and Bolts for Strengthening Your Christian Living

What is the importance of using the correct materials in a building project? It can mean the difference in a structure withstanding brutal winds and storms or being flattened by the storm. So it is with Christianity, we are to have a “firm foundation”, Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 “and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 “and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
What do we use to build a firm foundation in our Christianity? Jesus told us that if we hear and do His sayings we will be wise and withstand the storms of life. Yes, we will go through storms and may take some beatings, but if we are solid on the rock we will remain standing. We build a solid foundation through the Word of God. This is the way for God to speak to us daily and build strength in us as well. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” For our faith to be built we need to have continuous hearing of God’s Word followed by obedience to it.
We will not become a strong Christian by what we have heard in the past but we must have a continual interaction with God’s Word building ourselves up daily. This can be challenging with all the responsibilities we each have but we don’t want to neglect what is valuable for building wisdom and stability into our lives. We make time for what is important to us and what we value. We can gauge the value that we place on God’s Word by how much we invest it into our lives.
